I must be really stupid.  I just got Red Hat Linux 5.0 and installed it onto my Inspiron 3200.  I knew that I would have to sacrifice some resolution, but I can't even configure XWindow for 640x480 resolution.  Dell's crack tech support can't provide any more video information other than that I have a NeoMagic 2160 video controller.

In my configuration, I have horizontal sync rate at 60Hz and vertical range at 50-70.  I specified Generic VGA compatible video card.  I have the XF86_VGA16 driver loaded.  When I initiate 'startx,' I get a message telling me that no appropriate modes are found.

What do I do?  Anyone have a clue?  It's lonely here in Dell-Linux land.
