After doing the full installation of RedHat 5.1 on my Dell Inspiron
3000 clone (well, it is called Spectec but it is of the same configuration
and OEM of Dell), I downloaded RedHat's Neomagic X-server rpm and installed.
I followed the instructions: rpm -ivh ... then the ln -sf then replace
the XF86Config with the XF86Config.Neomagic and try to start X. After I
typed startx or even startx -- -bpp16, I get the following errors:
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
Of course, I am doing this as root but this shouldn't be the problem. I have
been a Unix user for a long time but never a sys-admin before. Any expert out
there want to help?
