This may be an easy one. The normal reason for the "No dependency
information" error message is an out of date .o file. Especially if you've
upgraded packages on the system you probably need to re-make your modules.
Did you change the kernel at all? Did you install a newer kernel source?
Anyway, what I'd do is go into /usr/src/linux and do a "make
modules_config and make modules_install" (GOD I HOPE Those are the right
commands. I know it's modules config and modules install, what I don't
know is if it's -'ed or _'ed. Anyway, read README in the /usr/src/linux
directory and probably /usr/src/linux/MODULES as well, that should tell you
exactly how to re-complie and re-install your modules).

Subject: Modules

Hello,

Recently I made some changes to my network configurations and added KDE as
my new Window Manager. In the process I had to reboot several times, and I
did add and update several packages as well. After I got the things that I
need to work, working, some other things stopped working. Namely the SOUND
does not seem to work anymore. I have found the problem to be during the
boot up of the system. During the boot up process, at the point where the
system goes through the rc.sysinit file. My boot up screen and my messages
syslog file show the error:
OCT 25 21:43:04 lobo modprobe: no dependency information for module:
"/lib/modules/2.0.34/misc/cs4232.0"
This is the sound module for my Inspiron 3000. I had this problem once
before the problem was that the directory was not 2.0.34, it had changed
for some reason to 2.0.34-06. I just renamed it back and everything
started working again. This time the directory is correct and the ".o"
files are there. Would someone know where I would need to check to see
what is going on with my machine ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank
You
