Interesting indeed.
I have the Win98 beta version on my desktop,
and have found sometimes that upon exiting Win98,
the Setup bios was open.

Possible Win98 changed your Setup settings while it was installing the new
hardware/software to eliminate IRQ conflicts.
So look in your Setup BIOS accessed by F2 on boot for changes.
Better keep a written record.

Read your /var/log/syslog file to see how your IRQs are assigned under
linux.

my 3com 3c562 LAN/Modem card is assigned to /dev/ttyS1, IRQ=3

I installed TurboLinux on my I7k with a 3Com PCMCIA modem some time
ago. At first, Linux could not see the modem. Then I changed the bios serial
port setting from "enabled" to "auto", then the modem worked fine on both
Linux and Win98. Later, I tried out connecting the system, under Win98, to
several external stuffs, monitor, mouse and printer. Afterward, Linux could
not
see the modem again. Anyone knowledgeable enough to know what might have
happened and how to fix it?
