Just for the record on this thread (which has outlived its usefulness), the
topic shifted subtly: it was re-installing Win95 but shifted with the i7k shift
to re-installing Win98. I don't have any personal experience with Win98, but I
understand that _a_lot_more_drivers_ are included in Win98. The ease of
installation on the i7k is probably due to most or all of the drivers being
included in the standard Microsoft distribution rather than being separate
add-on pieces like it is with the i3k series and Win95. In particular, Win98
probably knows about ATAPI CDROMs which is the biggest headache with
re-installing Win95.

If this is a survey, my experience was basically the same. I made a clean
install and as far as I can tell everything is ok. However, I have not
made the check between the full backup and the current configuration. My
point in the previous post is that this rarely happens, in my experience.
Its not a matter of "quality shops" but rather of the volitality of the
windows hardware/driver market (or the price you pay for an open hardware
architecture). I administrated Compaqs for a small insurance company and
almost without fail every two months the same computer had different
hardware or drivers or both.
