The big drawback of Linux are the awesome amounts of applications that are
being developed on the Windows platform. It's hard for Linux to compete
with that.

That said, however, one must take note of how utterly rapidly Linux had
grabbed the spotlight. With Corel, and others, on board, Linux is getting
the support it needs to be a Windows competitor.

As a webmaster, I would much rather use a Linux (or ANY Unix) platform with
Apache and Perl than have to constantly fight with NT Server, IIS and ASP
and their plethora of service packs, hotfixes and incompatibilities.
Apache is totally customizable, and everyone knows that Perl is the
duct-tape of the Internet -- it has 1001 uses... And then there's Java...

Yes, there is nothing close to MS's Office Suite. No question. I still
miss WordPerfect, though, because I still think it is a better word
processor.

As long as Microsoft keeps dropping the ball with NT2K, Linux will continue
to get the attention of CFOs, CIOs, and Sysadmins. Failure to be timely is
what ultimately put WordPerfect in the sad state it is now in, and it would
be rather poetic if Microsoft suffered the same fate.
