Can anyone offer anything further on the subject of reading CD-RWs, in my
case, on Matsushita DVD-ROM SR-8171?... I am trying and failing. Anyone had
any luck w/ this? Does it make sense to search for new and improved drivers?
(I tried System Properties > Device Manager >... Update Driver >...
Microsoft Windows Update, but crashed the program.)

I, too, was counting on this technology - today, specifically, and am
SOL....

Thanks,
