[install-discuss] 2008.11 will not install on hp laptop dv9330us

os 2008.11
Upon boot, after selecting installation mode on the splash screen, the system 
replies with " Loading Stage 2....".
A few lines scroll down the screen, pausing at "syncing file systems 
3,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,....." after which the screen goes black and a few seconds 
later it starts the entire boot process all over again.
Does anybody have an idea what it is that I am doing wrong?
