This doesn't sound right to me. If you really have OpenSolaris (and  
not Solaris Express), how could you be missing just those two files  
(pkg itself and the man page), and nothing else?

That makes no sense. If this is really the result of a "media error,"  
then you may have arbitrary things missing. Start over.

I think something's missing from this problem report.

In theory at least, you could get the pkg sources and compile it, but  
I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

If what you have is actually SX, then merely adding pkg won't fix the  
issue.
