I don't get it. My Windows XP VirtualBox supports sound very nicely. OpenSolaris does not and neighter does a solaris10 installation (both VirtualBox)
How could this be? Host Driver Solaris Audio Controller ICH AC97 This setting is the same for all mentioned virtual machines.
