Which ISO image do you use for the installation ?

Are you installing from internal or external CD/DVD drive ?

Does it make any difference, if you add "-B ata-dma-enabled=0" in
GRUB on kernel$ line ?

It seems you might be hitting following issue:

4501 OpenSolaris 2008.11 does not boot from livecd. Development version
