I had exactly the same problem. As far as I know you cannot load array driver before installation in OpenSolaris. You can do it in Solaris and SXCE.
but.... What I did is: 1. I extracted cpqary3 driver from drivers package from HP site (1.91) 2. installed newest OpenSolaris which was 101b 3. installed distro_const 4. edited one of the distro_const scripts where I put the driver in microroot which is prepared for install disk 5.run the distro_const After that I got OpenSolaris install iso from which you can install system on SmartArray hardware just like on any other hard disk supported out of the box by osol.
