Yes, that works nicely.  I guess I'm used to Solaris 10 where the packages 
don't change.

    # cd /mnt/Solaris_11/Tools/I*
    # ./liveupgrade20 -nodisplay -noconsole

Worked nicely for me, followed by:

    # luupgrade -u -n snv99be -s /mnt
