Hi Nicholas, since it seems that the issue you are encountering is probably not related to install (you have been able to go through install process successfully), I would recommend to redirect your question to laptop community - laptop-discuss at opensolaris.org .
I would start with trying to isolate, if there is particular driver responsible for your problems and then try to disable the hardware in BIOS or avoid loading that module by passing -B disable-<driver>=true option to kernel (for example -B disable-ohci=true,disable-uhci=true). For observing what is to be loaded during kernel boot process, you should enable kmdb (kernel debugger) by passing -kd options in GRUB and setting moddebug variable to 0x80000000 in kmdb, which would give you debug output for each kernel module that loads. When systems hangs, you might inspect it after entering kernel debugger by means of pressing the <F1> and <A> keys at the same time. For more details please see following blogs http://blogs.sun.com/dmick/entry/diagnosing_kernel_hangs_panics_with http://blogs.sun.com/setje/entry/disabling_toxic_drivers Best regards, Jan Nicholas Smith wrote: > Hello, I'm trying to get Solaris going on an Acer Travelmate 8204wlmi laptop. > Using Solaris Express Community Edition b73 DVD.
