Let's be very clear also. The memory requirements are because of integrating 
Xorg into the miniroot and using it for the install. This is evolution that 
was needed to take us into the future, and have a long term solution.

Sun is fully aware of the memory constraints, and decided to do what they did.

I don't think it was an un-educated decision, and had most of the community 
folks been inovolved in making it, I bet they would have done the same thing. 
Nobody will argue that it is excessive, tell me something new.

With that said, most all of the server type machines running Solaris have the 
memory needed. It was the laptops/workstations that had 512mb that were 
mostly effected. Mostly laptops with 512mb, most low end workstation/server 
have had more than 1gig for several years. I don't have any system with less 
than 2gig, laptops included. I have a couple sparc systems in the lab with 
1gig though.
