yea, i tried the various blanking options with cdrw and it wouldn't let me-- i forget the exact error, but it was something like "DVD+RW doesn't support blanking". i read the man page on cdrecord and after a bit was able to successfully get it to blank and record the image, so thanks much for the advice!
