Thank you for the responses. The title ?Flash vs Backup?, taken from Scott?s blog, was somewhat misleading because all I wanted to do was to find the simplest way to duplicate the hard disk of a system that is not connected to any network. I wanted to automate this duplication as much as possible because the operator who will perform this task in the field could be very inexperienced.
Under considerations were dd, ufsdump, live upgrade, and flash archive. Since I did not see anywhere in Sun?s documentation regarding flash not reproducing complete disk images, except for the files excluded intentionally when the flash is created, I was surprised to read Scott?s blog and just wanted to confirm his statement.
