I don't think there's a fundamental problem with the X server - Belenix
0.6 does detect the i810 and come up (albeit limited to 1600x1200, while
the newer intel driver would probably automatically do 1920x1200). So I
think its really an issue with the install CD/DVD configuration, in
terms of whether the hardware detection is setting up the AGP support
for Intel.

I tried again with the text mode installer and it got as far as offering
me a list of disk partitions on c0d1 and their types, but unfortunately:
 - while it recognised an existing Solaris partition, that is
unfortunately my Linux swap
 - while it recognised that there was 100GB free, it wasn't clear how to
get it to create a primary partition with the free space and start the
install

I've since run up Linux and used Linux fdisk to recreate the 100GB
primary partition I'd deleted and set it to the alternate Solaris
partition type (bf from memory), and I'll have another pop at the install.

Usability here isn't what it could be - I've been installing PC
operating systems for a while, albeit not Solaris, and I've struggled.

Is there a way I can convince grub to load up the AGP support needed?
