A bit more information would be helpful. How were you installing the system ? Off a CD/DVD/Network. Based on the information provided, I am assuming that you were installing over the net. If so one reasons might be that the driver_aliases file needs to be updated. Can you run the Sun Device Detection Tool http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=8&PartDetailId=SDDT-1.1-G-F&TransactionId=noreg and see what it thinks.
