Sorry to be impolite but your question led me wonder whether you have actually
installed Solaris Express from the DVD images.

As Dennis described, the SDM does the unzipping automatically and what you will
get after visiting with Sun's download site are three unzipped files, not the
zipped partial ISOs. Thus, the zipped md5 values are totally useless for us.

Most of us have this habit (due to superstition I suppose) of never deleting
interim files that took hours to download. When we have to download the zipped
files (because the unzipped checksums are unavailable), you can bet that we
will never delete any of these files until one or more of the final "tangible"
DVDs are actually and correctly burned.

Thus, with the current setup, we are talking about a need for 3 GB of zipped
files, plus 3.5 GB of unzipped files, and finally the 3.5 GB of concatenated
DVD iso, for a total of 10 GB. (Also the time it takes to unzip is not
trivial.)

With cdrecord, we can cat and burn the three fragmented dvd isos on the fly
(thus, there will not be a final DVD iso). As such, we are talking about only
3.5 GB of storage space and a saving of b/t 15 min to one hour of attended
computer time. To take advantage of this "fast track", of course, we need
checksums for unzipped files. Indeed, these are the only checksums we need
but, unfortunately, are the only ones that are missing from the checksum file.
