This article on O'reilly Net makes some interesting comparisons between PC-BSD 
and Ubuntu installation:

Of relevance to this discuss is the PC-BSD PBIs (Push Button Installers) use 
case and the PBI Directory.  This seems to be a source of gravitational pull 
for developers and users alike, where they can find not only the app to 
download, but also download stats, a search utility, and evidence of an 
obviously active community.

Would be great to see Sun's Connected Systems program offer this level of 
integration with OpenSolaris.
