Blastwave builds their own software stock, which means they in turn have to supply dependencies for all of their packages even if you already have those dependencies. Are > you suspicious that they whacked my slocate group? Yes, that was my thought. If another package you installed defined the slocate group, that would explain why it was missing. The packaging system doesn't yet have some safeties in place to deal with multiple packages delivering the same files, users, or groups. Normally, installing the SUNWslocate package will add the slocate user, so the only way it should be missing is someone edited the groups file (using tools or something else) or a package was removed that defined it.
