I'm having a similar problem. To debug it, modify the kernel args from grub to
include the -k option. Then, when it dies, it will drop into the debugger and
not roll off the screen. From the debugger, you can use mdb commands. In my
case, ::prtconf reports that it doesn't see any of the disks so it can't import
the root pool. To see what was expected, I booted my old version (nv105)
with a bogus zfs-bootfs argument so it would fail in the same place and the
::prtconf did show the disks.

I also have 2 root pools, rpool (mirror) and another non mirrored root pool but
it doesn't look like these are getting confused.
