Did you install VirtualBox 2.2.4 using an SVR4 package you downloaded or
  using the 'pkg install' command?

If you use the 'pkg install' command, then you need to do this to remove it:

pfexec pkg uninstall virtualbox virtualbox/kernel

pkgrm can't remove IPS packages, and 'pkg uninstall' can't remove SVR4
packages.
