Ah, ok. So it isn't hanging, is seems that it gets a kernel panic. Try to boot the kernel from the install CD with options " -kv". In the GRUB boot menu, type 'e' twice to edit the "OpenSolaris 2008.05" entry, and add a space and "-kv" at the end of the kernel$ line. RETURN and 'b' boots.
