Odd indeed.  But without more details, there's not much we can do to help.

Yup.  All image-modifying operations will bring the catalog up to date.
We're talking about reducing that a bit (querying the server just to find
out the catalog hasn't changed takes a bit of time), by allowing the server
to specify how often it expects to be updated, and getting the client to
follow those suggestions by default.  But that's future work.
