Yes, I installed the Live Upgrade packages using
the installation program (liveupgrade20) on the snv_94 DVD.

I did a fresh install when I switched to ZFS with SXCE build 90.
The installation program created a slice for the ZFS root pool.
It did not create any separate boot partition.

I traced the error messages I got from the rc6 script to the file
/usr/lib/lu/lulib, function lulib_install_boot_GRUB.
It seems to require the presence of either /boot or /stubboot of type 
pcfs in /etc/vfstab. I have neither.
