Some sort of ITU-like facility in 2008.11 would be nice. At the moment OpenSolaris (the distro) has worse device support than SXCE, since it is missing the closed source drivers from Sun Solaris, and you can't (easily) install your own drivers at install time. This seems odd given that OpenSolaris is meant to entice new users to the platform.
To get the widest device support in OpenSolaris, you ideally want: -- binaries for all of the closed source drivers included in SXCE -- support for Solaris ITUs -- binaries for as many open-source drivers as possible -- as many device IDs as possible listed in /etc/driver_aliases plus any other new ITU-like system that might be designed for OpenSolaris.
