It *is* a prototype.  We plan on converting the WOS by hand.  It's the
packages outside Solaris that are more interesting.  I believe that Stephen
has mentioned in some venue that there are multiple ways to transition, and
while we don't have the details worked out yet (concentrating on the
immediate Indiana release means it's not at the top of our to-do lists),
it's obviously something we'll have to cover and provide useful mechanisms
for people to use.  We know we can't change the world overnight.

We are.  By virtue of repackaging them in the new system.  :)  If you're
proposing modifying the way our current SysV install works to remove all
use of scripting, feel free to dive down that rathole and let us know if
it's time well spent.  ;-)
