Ok , so I swaped the DVD drive from the NEC 4571 to the Plextor PX-800A
I did not mesure the time it takes to answer the initial questions of the
install.
>From the point where the installer starts to format the Hard Disk until the
>final reboot,
with the NEC 4571 = 45 minutes.
with the PX-800A = 40 minutes.
This list is fairly representative of the CPU load during the install
Machine is a Shuttle SN25P Barebone.
CPU is Dualcore Athlon 64 4800+ 2.4 Ghz.
Mem is Corsair DDR 400 CAS Latency 2 cycles ( 2x1 GB )

This is the last mean value of I/O load shortly before finish.
compared to the NEC drive ( which had a busy figure of 66%
while the 10.000 rpm disk had a busy figure of 11% )
this is showing a 4% higher utilization of the harddisk.
DVD is c1t0d0
10.000 rpm disk is c2t0d0

The top busy value of the PX800A is 80% during the install
while the NEC4571 showed 100% on several occasions.
This is probably the moment in time when the DVD does
the most reads per second.

All in all I can conclude that the fastest SATA drive available
10.000 rpm
and one of the best DVD units DVD_ROM read speed = 16X
and a fair dualcore CPU results in a install time of 40 minutes.
I do belive that Moinak's HSFS improvments should be adopted.
