Yes, every time when I've made a modification anywhere on /a, with a following 
command:

bootadm update-archive -R /a

The catch is that the system panics so fast that I'm unable to read the output. 
 I work around this by booting with "-svk", which kicks me into kmdb.  But 
since we are talking ANSI console here, I have no way to scroll upwards to see 
if any boot paths were printed.  At that point, kmdb is my only option.  
However, I am not a kernel expert.
