And what exactly was the text of that error message ?
 
Did you check the /tmp/install_log file ? It should
contain a lot more information what has failed...

Where are a lot of important steps that are performed
after transferring the livecd contents to hdd, when
the opensoliris installer is at 99%.  When one or more
of these steps fail the system most likely won't boot.

/tmp/install_log should reveal what went wrong...

Hmm, opensolaris uses a zfs root filesystem, and as far
as I know, Linux' grub doesn't support booting from zfs.
You have to use Solaris grub to be able to boot from a 
zfs root.
