You'll find toolkit images you can use here: http://wikis.sun.com/display/IpsBestPractices/Downloads However, building and installing the version found in the gate is likely your best option. However, before going farther, are you certain that you're using a OpenSolaris 20xx release and not SXCE (Solaris Express Community Edition; now discontinued)? SXCE doesn't have /usr/bin/pkg.
