That is, it doesn't  hang any more?


Btw. some older systems are extremely slow booting Solaris
from USB, because Solaris' boot_archive file is so big,
and the old systems use slow USB 1.x mode to load it.

That probably depends on the write speed of the usb flash
memory device. A lot of them write quite slow (1 - 2 mbytes/sec).

Enabling zfs compression and disabling access time
updates might help a bit (compression=on and zfs atime=off).
