Well, I could certainly install Java, but when and how would I do this exactly?
What's the reason behind not simply configuring the additional opensolaris.org
publisher and its repository (either ipkg.sfbay/dev or your own copy)? This is
where the packages that were historically in the 'WOS' live now.
1. I can't guarantee internet access
That's fine; at the moment, the only requirement is that you have a
pkg.depotd process serving the repository in question.
2. I want to have a specific version of packages that I've qualified
Have all packages in the WOS been converted to IPS? Can I pull down a specific
version and storage it locally in a repo that I create?
Yes, yes, and yes. I'll send you the link to the appropriate material
off-list that talks about how to run a local mirror.
The package system is only going to install the packages that are declared as
being required -- not everything.
I don't know what that means.
I was just saying that having a copy of what's normally in the
pkg.opensolaris.org/dev repository for a specific build won't cause your
system to install all of those other packages automatically.
So if you install the group package that Liane mentioned for osnet, it's
only going to retrieve the other packages it needs.
Not that you'd expect otherwise, but I just wanted to be clear.
