looking at your screenshot, you've created a folder under shared, which does not look to inherits from the rights of the shared folder. on this point, the answer is that there is a bug in 4.0.4 with space in folder names, which prevent to see the rights (actually they are inherited), or upload a file, or create a folder, or to do anything on this folder/file. it is just a link encoding issue. however i do not see any reason why you could not upload files in the shared folder, if rights are granted. but if the file name contains spaces you might have the same issue when looking at file permissions, no rights will be shown.there is no way to deactivate the rights inheritance - so if the rights do not appear there's an issue somewhere.

Hi !
I've create some users and groups and give the following rights on the home page of my dev site.
USER GROUP RIGHTS ON HOME PAGE reader readers, users, guests read writer writers, users, guests read, write approver approvers, users, guests read, write, admin
The writer and the approver can't upload files in the "shared" folder (same with personal folder !!!). When I upload a file with the administrator user, no right is defined on the file like in the screenshot
I've create an other virtual site and create the same groups and users with the same rights. When I create some files or folders in the "shared" folder (or personal folder), the rights are inherited and the writer user can upload files.
How can I restore the defaut inheritance rights in the file manager ?
Thanks Ghislain
