Jahia 5.0 SP3 released

This 3rd Service Pack for the Jahia 5.0 release is mainly a performance pack (please read carefully the <http://www.jahia.net/download/jahia5.0/stable/README_5.0.3_01.html>Readme file and the new <http://www.jahia.net/jahia/webdav/site/jahia_net/shared/Documentation/5.0.3/Jahia5_Performance_Guide_SP3.pdf>Performance Guide) It also include a few generic development sponsorized by certain customers. We strongly recommend to all Jahia 5 customers to migrate to Jahia 5.0.3 (SP3) as it corrects hundreds of issues.

Important information for Jahia developers: Starting from the SP3, the trunk SVN branch will become the stable branch. Until the SP3, Jahia had two main active branch (Head and SP branches). Starting from the SP3, all new major enhancements will be developed in distinct branches and the HEAD branch will become the stable one. The old SP branch will become an archive. Please modify your IDE environment accordingly.

New features and bugfixes in Jahia 5.0.3

The following performance improvements are part of Jahia 5.0.3 :

Performance (Please read carefully the new <http://www.jahia.net/jahia/webdav/site/jahia_net/shared/Documentation/5.0.3/Jahia5_Performance_Guide_SP3.pdf>Performance Guide) Dozens of performance optimizations are included in this SP3 release. Page rendering in live and edit modes have been significantly optimized. Such changes also include the refactoring of the permission and workflow state systems. It also included several code synchronizations optimizations. Please check the <http://www.jahia.net/jahia/webdav/site/jahia_net/shared/Documentation/Jahia5_Performance_Roadmap.pdf>Jahia 5 Performance Roadmap or the <http://www.jahia.net/download/jahia5.0/stable/changelog_5.0.3.html>change log file for more details.

ESI
We add a new mode for ESI that caches fragments only in live mode and invalidates them using a time-based rules instead of having to send invalidation messages coming from the back-end Jahia servers.

Indexation
We added new options in order to delay (re)indexation of the jahia content objects to a given hour (e.g. midnight). New options are available in order to immediately index certain content objects and to delay other indexation tasks to a later time. The system administrator can also now setup the system in order to delay to a later time the indexation of attached binary files (e.g. PDF or Word documents) while directly indexing the rest of the content object. If you want to customize this feature, you should check the <http://www.jahia.net/jahia/webdav/site/jahia_net/shared/Documentation/5.0.3/Jahia5_Performance_Guide_SP3.pdf>performance fine tuning guide (Jahia Tuning section) available as part of this release.

The SP3 includes the following new features :

Default Templates
Starting from this release the number of templates included in the default Corporate Portal Templates v1 and v2 has been reduced to the strict minimum when installing Jahia. In previous versions many templates where given for demonstration purpose only or to help developers understand Jahia templating mechanisms and capabilities. Those templates weren’t designed for an immediate use in production on heavy loaded websites or weren’t stable enough. Nevertheless in too many Jahia “live” websites we’ve discovered those templates used without any optimization or change. To avoid that kind of temptation, we’ve decided to put most templates available on our website in our <http://www.jahia.net/templates>Template Repository with notes and warnings. The Template Repository will centralize all extra templates which will evolve independently from Jahia releases. Pay attention to template notes and compatibility before downloading and using them. Please note that you can also install additional home made or third party portlets which are all available in our <http://www.jahia.net/portlets>Portlets Repository .

Quick-Edit option NStep workflow enhancement (Courtesy of Ministère des Finances) We extended the Jahia N-Step workflow in order to let authors quickly edit and update content on a page in any workflow step.
