we tracked down which request causes the errors. still it needs to be
investigated, what the "real" rails problem is.
any ideas appreciated.

that didn't help, but I think that I positively tracked down the
request that always seems to kill the site:
http://instiki.org/rss_with_content
The headlines RSS is fine. If you were seeing this on both Webrick and
Mongrel, then I think it's rather a Rails problem and should be
treated as such.
