Hi INTAREA Colleagues: Based on offline and online feedback received from list (5GANGIP) discussions, we have posted an update to the MAMS draft clarifying the following aspects:
- Flexibility in instantiation of MAMS network functions - Number, Location independence - Scalability to include and support new network technologies like 5G - Co-existence and complementarity with current IETF protocols like MPTCP - Clarification of differences with ANDSF - Clarification on applicability to (ETSI) MEC Please review the updated version at - https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-kanugovi-intarea-mams-protocol-03. We would also like to take this opportunity to introduce the companion draft on MAMS control plane procedures to support discovery, capability exchange, configuration of user plane protocols, and dynamic adaptation of network paths - the draft is available for your review at https://www.ietf.org/id/draft-zhu-intarea-mams-control-protocol-00.txt. The draft introduces the procedures, and the plan is to create a separate draft that specifies the exact encoding of the control plane messages and parameters. Will share that shortly as well. Please review the drafts and share your feedback. MAMS (Multi-Access Management Signaling) is a framework that allows clients and networks in a multi-network scenario to negotiate the combination of uplink and downlink paths taking into account client's application needs and network conditions. It allows dynamic adaptation of the network paths guided by network intelligence supplemented by information conveyed by the clients. MAMS can co-exist with and complement IETF protocols like TCP, UDP, GRE, MPTCP by providing a mechanism to negotiate and configure these protocols based on deployment needs (e.g. IPsec where network level security is needed), application needs (e.g. packet/flow switching or aggregation using protocols like MPTCP), network conditions (e.g Switching or Aggregation modes based on differential link delay), transport type, etc. and including client/network capabilities. Please review the draft and share your feedback and perspectives that we can consider as we develop this further.
