That’s what the Internet calls a UDP port number, not an IP protocol number.
There’s no reason why running over UDP should affect your performance per se.
Finally, if you want to be able to switch IP addresses in the middle of things,
you should consider MP-TCP - whether you run over it or emulate how it works.
