and maybe this could help..
FOR THE SLOW DISPLAY OF FILES
-first of all,try and spend some budget to buy a decent 2gb ram as
win7 use most of the ram for file transfer and reading. less resource
for file cache can gradually decrease its performance.
-disable file indexing, because of u have a lot of files in one
folder,it checks all the file for date of modified and
etc...Generally,disable the indexing service for a performance boost!
-try to enable write back caching (Best for lappy). If u have an
external power such as UPS or battery (laptop) Device manager ->
search for ur hd propertise -> under the policies tab..
-use Windows best software (in my opinion) the windows
readyBoost, spend some money to buy a 2-4 gb of transmemory with
ReadyBoost ready,it increase the resource for file cache and generally
improve performance on file managing.
-Enabling SATA support in ur bios also improve performance, relevantly
RAID setting.
-try and do a full defrag after all that and see the difference.

WELCOME SCREEN ISSUE
-its a rare issue.........
-well,do the same in the procedure above, generally, clear ur prefetch
setting and set prefetch to load only boot up application to memory. X-
setup required for easy tweaking..

hope it helps,i'll continue to search some remedy for ur machine
illness ^^
