this subject has been covered here before but not as in depth as what i am about to go with it. PERFORMANCE everyday i check my email and there is always at least 5 messages about people who do not have the system requirements trying to run something. i9xxg is always making new breakthroughs in what can run and what can not run. there is only so much a person can do to there laptop, and here at 9xx we have pushed our laptops to the max. but one thing i am noticing more than anything else is what people have for speed and memory. one rule of thumb i have always followed and has not let me down yet is having the propper amount of physical memory to work with my processing speed. i see people with dual core 2ghz with only 1gm ram. for proper functionality of a dual core you need to have at least half of what the total amount of processing speed is (ex. 2ghz (4ghx dual)=2gb ram). if you have more than 4gb of physical ram than you will need to upgrade to a 64bit os.
what os should i run?... that is determined by what you are going to be doing. since we are a bunch of gamers here, in school or work with computers for a profession. if your laptop has a sata(n) hard driveyou will need to use either win viscrap or win7. that is if you do not know how to get the drivers for xp to recognize the hard drive. as everyone knows windows vista is not very gamer friendly. it has a high demand on system resources. you can go to www.tweakguides.com to get more information about tweaking win vista or xp. they also have in depth guides on running many newer and older games. what is shader 3.0? well if you are running a laptop and you didnt fork out $3000 or more than you DO NOT have shader/vertex 3.0. shader model 3.0 is well simply put 2x the detail as shader model 2 is. 3.0 is the rendering of texture, mesh, and lighting. lets use the xbox and the xbox 360 as an example here. the original xbox used the shader 2. if we look at what the bit classification was we would think 128 bit. back then the games on that system looked top of the line. like when halo 2 came out, or ninja gaiden black. now there is the xbox 360 and the name says it all it is a 360 bit system. we play games like gears of war 2, halo 3, call of duty 4 and so many more that a lot of computers have a hard time running. the reason these games work so well with the xbox 360 is because it supports shader 3, it has a 3 seperate processors running at 2.8ghz each. what is the difference between ripped games and store bought games? ALOT! when you buy a game from the store it comes on a disk, all files are in tact and is able to be updated. simply said. now as far as ripped games go, these games are extracted from the original game disk (s), audio and video files are re formatted and compressed to reduce file size or just removed all together, but when this process is done there is a spoof file in place of the original so the game can not say the file is missing. there is a ton of re coding to bypass anti piracy functions, (ex. securom). then there is a no cd crack and any other cracked files added. from here it goes into a high compression tool known as uharc. this requires a bit of scripting. then is placed as a torrent on your fav. torrent site. ripped games do require more system resources depending on the game. any game that runns with a nocd patch requires more system requirements on average 256mb memory. what is a torrent? a torrent is just a small file containing the required information to locate a specific file(s) on another persons computer. but a person needs a program that recognizes .torrent files. its hard to believe that the worlds number 1 piracy file type was created by microsoft. (lol rofl sp&po) why windows 7? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7 need i say more? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "INTEL 9XX Gaming" group.
