Hey guys, I noticed that a lot of people are getting drowned in all
the info so hopefully this can clear some of it up. If anyone has more
tweaks that aren't related to a specific game only, let us know in
here!

Oh yeah, I hate getting links and I wrote this in 5 minutes, so use
GOOGLE! lol!

1) Maximum performance mode

-Right-click the desktop, choose Graphic Properties.
- Then go to the Display Settings tab
- Click Power Settings
- Choose "Disable Power Savings"
- While you're still in the Intel window, maybe disable Hotkeys as you
probably don't use them, and that way it won't be waiting for it to be
pressed

2) 3D settings

- Still in the Graphic Properties window, choose "3D Settings", a
button on the bottom.
- Change "Memory Footprint" to "High"
- Disable any texture compression if it's enabled, this slows it down
- Disable Anisotropic Filtering
- Disable Triple Buffering
- Leave Flipping Policy to "Flip"

3) Gamebooster

Download Gamebooster if you haven't already (Google search, I'm lazy!)
Once you have it installed, to go the directory where you installed it
and open the text file, there you can edit which services it disables
and which ones it doesn't. I suggest adding some yourself, by looking
in your "Services" windows (search for it in the start menu. Any
services you don't need to run a game, add them in there, with the
"=1" after. Don't forget "Themes=1", at least for Windows 7.

4) Overclock

4a) While personally GMABooster doesn't seem to do anything for me,
and I hate the author for pretending it's freeware while locking it
after two weeks, it can't hurt. So run it just in case it helps at
some point.

4b) Overclock the CPU whatever way you can. If you're lucky enough to
be able to do it through the BIOS, or through modded BIOS for your PC/
laptop/netbook, then I hate you, but do it because it's permanent and
more stable. If not, like the rest of us do it through an in-windows
overclocking utility. SetFSB seems to be the most common. You find the
"PLL" (Google!) for your computer, select it in the program, and then
you click "Get FSB", then you move the slider to the right and click
"Set FSB". There's more software like Eeectl for the EEE netbooks
specifically, and another for the Aspire One, etc.

5) Make sure you're in the highest performance mode in the battery
settings.
Once you select that highest mode, double-check in the advanced power
settings to see if the minimum CPU and maximum CPU clock are both
100%.

6) Disable thermal throttling and the like if you can. Sometimes on
high usage the CPU will be throttled (slowed) automatically. So if you
have any power-saving related options in the BIOS, disable them.
Obviously check your temperatures to make sure they stay low. Use
programs like Core Temp and HWMonitor. Oh yeah, and Everest is the
best program ever for monitoring EVERYTHING.

7) Use 3DAnalyzer and fiddle around. Find which settings, by trial and
error, make the game run faster without making it look too bad. This
can take a long time, but it's worth it if you play that game a lot.

8) Monitor your FPS! Sometimes the game will have a built-in FPS
counter, and often it uses really minimal res resources so its great,
but its often ugly lol, so I use a program called FRAPS.

9) Tweak Windows! Use programs like Ultimate Windows Tweaker,
EnhanceMySe7en (favourite), and a lot of online guides! This will make
it boot faster too, and faster overall

10) let me know what I missed! DISCUSS! YEEEAAAAAAHHHHH

Random good programs:

BMEM: an awesome program for monitoring your resource usage without
taking up any! I have it start at startup. I'd go into more detail
explaining it, but really everyone should use it so here's the link:
http://badmofo.org/bmem/

REVO Uninstaller: When you uninstall a program, it leaves some poopoo
behind, so use this program to uninstall things better! lol!

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: This is the only anti-bad stuff program I
use. It's not realtime so it wont slow you system down. Just do a scan
every once in a while.

CrystalCPUID: WIth this you can edit your CPU voltage, which is good
to put it lower to save battery life. Although if you are
overclocking, leave it at the default. You can see a lot of other info
in this program too, as well as a nice realtime onscreen-display of
the clock speed.

Miranda IM: A good free instant mesaging program that uses very little
resources

Speedbit Video Accelerator: speeds up the buffering of online flash
videos

Alright, so anyone else have anything useful to add, questions, ideas,
etc?
