Windows XP performance edition used 250-300 mbs of ram for me. 300-350 is not bad for win 7 and I don't really need alot of ram since all the games that are even playable on this old laptop don't use much ram. 1 gig is enough.
Win7 64 bit ultimate used 750-800 mbs of ram on my desktop. If I defrag the ram it will go down to 450-500 but it will eventually go back up.
