Pretty sure that this topic is a little out of hand, its been proven that if the GMA945 actually supported SM3.0 and TnL it would out perform the 6 Series of nvidias cards, however it dosn't and has to emulate it instead which only adds more processing to the already bloated mess of graphics rendering. And back to the original question, it depends on what software you will be running on the expanded memory setup, it has to be capable of actually using this amount of VRAM, for instance in oblivion when you run out of VRAM for the storage of textures and effects (typical on 128/256MB VRAM setups) you have to run PCB (Purge Cell Buffer) other wise it stutters like shit as it tries to make room for more textures etc as it renders new cells. However if it has 512MB VRAM available it won't do this cause it can store more data in VRAM and can passively free up memory which has hardly noticible effects cause it dosn't need to aggresively make more space to quickly accomadate more data coming in to be buffered. This is just an example but it should give you an idea of what I'm trying to explain.
