the nvidia GPU runs hot mostly in my experience came from buggy drivers...i heard that newer ForceWare does reduce heat output to an optimal level by idling the GPU when not in use, and uses what the games / programs need from the GPU and not runs at 90 - 100% utilization...but i never had any experience on nvidia mobile GPU personally...
and i second tribaljet which is 9600M GT can easily pawned ATI Mobile 54xx..also 9600M GT comes a par with ATI mobiliy Radeon 46xx..which in fact a good GPU from ATI for mobile discrete..that said without fanism for both brand..
