Ah, that box thingie that needs a monitor :)) Yeah, not the best way to go. Think of it this way, the minimum gpu you should get is a 8600GT or a 9500GS, nvidia side. Ati side, I'd go with at least 4650(preferrably 4670), stay away from their HD3xxx series, too similar to nvidia 7xxx series.
