Yeah, still no joy with the game, I suspect it might be my laptop being in a bit of state (had a couple virus attacks in the past), so perhaps it works for others.
As for why I don't use MD's, I'd rather avoid them where possible since I've noticed a few problems in the past with some games that used to work fine with the stock drivers (I think OpenGL support). Windows 7 seems like the way to go, but don't know if it's worth it since I'm probably going to get a new laptop in a couple months and finally lay my 4-year-old Dell beast to rest. Just need to make sure I specify what gfx card I want in it to not end up with this pile of shit again!
