Well, X700, X800 and X850 were quite nice, HD2600 and HD2900 kicked
ass for their time, but HD3xxx didn't cut it (just like the new HD6xxx
series) and only the latest HD4xxx mobile gpus were ok, as the desktop
ones kinda sucked, with the exception of HD4890. HD5xxx series is...
ok, very slightly cheaper than nvidia (since nvidia cut down prices,
it's no longer the thought line to take). Seems like ati will launch
their almighty HD6970 to finally beat GTX480, it's good PR for them,
they got the limited edition asus made with the previous gen gpu, it
kinda works out for them until GTX580 comes out. And let's not forget
that a pair of midrange nvidias put a serious dent on both high end
nvidia and ati gpus.
That aside, I totally agree that synthetic results don't translate
into real world performance.
