Go for either a 1000, or 2000 series, but you need a 2000 series with a hackable motherboard. Those PSP's are the PHAT with less RAM, but will ensure you can always get custom firmware on it no matter what.
PSP 2000 (unhackable), 3000, and 4000 (the Go), they can be hacked, but you need to have a certain firmware on it. If I understand correctly, the 3000 series can start out at like firmware 5.XX, and the Go starts out at 6.XX (could be wrong). Any PSP you buy now should have the ability to play ISO/CSO/DAX PSP UMD disc images either way, but there is one thing you should NOT do when you get your PSP, System Update. NEVER do this, I missed out on CFW because I upgraded to 6.20 (I get light/live CFW, but I have to load it everytime, CFW is easier). In my situation, I have a PSP 3001 with official 6.20 firmware. I rely on the HBL exploit (Patapon 2 Demo + Exploit Save) to boot into TN-HEN 6.20 (LCFW). From there I can use my ISO loader to load most (theres some I heard have issues, but none of the games I want) PSP game I have that is in .iso/.cso format. So it works out alright for me now.
